About the Players Players Logo

The Pennington Players have been entertaining local audiences since 1951. In 1964, we became the first group ever to perform at the Washington Crossing State Park Open Air Theatre with our production of George Bernard Shaw's The Devil's Disciple. The following year, we performed our first musical, Plain and Fancy, which was also the first musical to appear at the OAT.

Our goal is to entertain and learn, and to have fun while doing it. Membership is open to anyone interested in working on a show - both on and off stage - but neither actors nor crew need to be members to participate. The production staffs are made up of energetic volunteers, and we are willing to train anyone interested in a position on the crew. The Players take special pride in the many young people who have learned and grown with us and then gone on to professional careers in the theater.

What We Do

In a typical season, the Pennington Players produce three or four productions at Kelsey Theater on the campus of Mercer County Community College. The Kelsey Theater productions range from children's theater to smaller works to well-known and usual musicals. In recent years, the Players have earned a reputation for production works that are new or unusual, staging debut performances of Fame and Jekyll and Hyde at the OAT, as well as the New Jersey state premiere of The Legend of Redwall Abbey at the Kelsey Theater.

T
he Pennington Players also take pride in their community service; members of the group have volunteered to work at the annual Pennington Day celebration, and to help spruce up our community with the Friends of Hopewell Valley Open Spaces.

Come Meet Us

T
he Players hold monthly Board meetings, typically on the second Tuesday of each month (although this may vary from time to time, depending upon show and rehearsal schedules). Every second month, the Board meeting is combined with a General meeting for all members of the Pennington Players; Board meetings are also open to general members or those interested in becoming members.

Board meetings are currently held in the Community Room at the Hopewell Valley Community Bank, 802 Denow Road, Pennington, NJ    (Located on the Northbound side of Route 31 in the Hopewell Crossing Shopping Center.)
